Thermofax Screens

I am very excited with my new Thermofax Machine. I have wanted one ever since I first saw them about 4 years ago but they were out of my price range and I couldn't really justify the cost.
Thermofax is an outdated technology superceeded by photocopiers and printers so are difficult to find although there is one manufacturer in Germany producing them.

For the last few years I have been using a Print Gocco Machine which is more a manual version with the light provided by old fashioned flash bulbs. I was limited to small screens which, although fine to use, were limiting (and expensive to produce in quantity).

I have been using my small thermofax screens in my Textured Treasures Workshops for a few years and my students are always fascinated with them. The sample above was actually a test piece trying out different paints but it was so good I had to use it in a quilt.

So I thought it was time to upgrade and am very pleased with this new direction for my work and classes.

My friend Maggie Weiss is probably responsible for getting me addicted when I did her class in Houston a few years ago. Here she is showing you how to use them.

So Dyed & Gone to Heaven is pleased to announce that we not only have a range of screens for you to buy, we are also able to create your own personalised screens. Our range of designs is available in two sizes

A4   297 x 210mm   11.7 x 8.3 in
A5   210 x 148mm    8.3 x 5.8 in

and our designs are scaled so that if you have both sizes in the same design you have two sizes for even more creativity. I will be adding to the screen design range over the next few weeks so keep returning or if you have a specific requiest - just ask.

As I am off to New Zealand next week I created a couple of screens for my students. Here is the process of using them.

Fern Leaf screen with some of our Textcraft Dual Paint ready for screening
First leaf print

Second leaf print

Second screen on NZ city names with some of our Opulence Paint
After a few prints
Finally a wash of Sun Dyes to tie it all together.

So kick start your own personal imagery with a thermofax screen or two.
